Terms of Use.

The following terms of use of ifwom GmbH, Lohmühlenstr. 65, D-12435 Berlin, District Court of Charlottenburg, HRB 128694B (hereinafter referred to as “ifwom”) govern the legal relationship between ifwom and the users (hereinafter referred to as “users”) of’s online platform (hereinafter referred to as the “online platform”).


ifwom is an Institute for Marketing and Word-of-Mouth Research based in Berlin. Our objective is to research the effect and range of word of mouth (the passing on of information). We wish to find out how news spreads among friends and acquaintances, how far it spreads, and the sort of news people like and do not like to spread.


These terms of use shall apply to all users of ifwom’s online platform.

ifwom participation codes.

You can take part in research projects and/or use the ifwom online platform if you have received an ifwom participation code. You may have received one of these ifwom participation codes as an ifwom “research card” from friends/acquaintances, found an ifwom research code on product packaging, or received the code by e-mail. You are required to have an ifwom participation code in order to take part in ifwom research projects and/or use the ifwom online platform. Unfortunately you will not be able to take part in ifwom research projects or use the ifwom online platform without an ifwom participation code. Each user may only use ifwom participation codes once and for his/her own use. The used participation code may (and should) subsequently be passed on to friends/acquaintances (who may then use the participation code themselves).


If you have an ifwom participation code, you have the opportunity to take part in an ifwom research project. Participation in an ifwom research project involves taking part in one or more online surveys on the ifwom online platform. As a rule, use of the ifwom online platform is restricted to adults only. Each user must enter data correctly and provide truthful information. In addition to participating in one or more online surveys, you may also take part in a competition running parallel to an online survey. In these competitions, various prizes will be raffled among all individuals taking part in the survey. The judges’ decision will be final in each case. Precise details of the prizes and number of prizes can be found in the description of each survey.

Privacy/Personal Data.

ifwom does not collect any personal data when you take part in a survey. All information you provide will be used by ifwom solely for the purpose of generating statistics and reports, without making any personal references. An exception will apply if, while answering a survey, you inform us that you also wish to take part in the project competition and/or if you also wish to take part in the second and/or third follow-up survey. In this instance you will be asked to provide your e-mail address so we can notify you accordingly (in the event that you win and/or when the follow-up surveys are due to commence). ifwom is aware of the sensitivity of personal data and respects the protection of privacy when collecting and processing the personal data of users. Personal data is collected, processed and used in accordance with legal regulations. Further details can be found in the Privacy Policy (the user’s consent to the handling of personal data).

Term, cancellation.

As a user, you may cancel the service at any time. Cancellation must be made in writing or by e-mail. No claims for damages are permitted. ifwom may terminate the usage contract with a notice period of 14 days. The right to cancel without notice for cause shall not be restricted in any way by this provision. A reason for cancellation without notice for cause shall be deemed to be present for ifwom in the event that the user violates these terms of use. Cancellation must be made in writing or by e-mail.

Changes to these terms.

ifwom reserves the right to make changes to these terms of use from time to time if necessary. Such changes will be displayed to users before using the ifwom online platform directly on the ifwom online platform.


The content of ifwom’s online platform and other documents that the user receives from ifwom are generally protected by copyright and may only be used in accordance with ifwom’s requirements and conditions. Any other reproduction, distribution, display or public disclosure is not permitted without the consent of the copyright holder. In the event that ifwom offers users software to download, this will only include the right to the proper use of the software on one computer.

Availability of the online platform and services provided by ifwom.

ifwom is entitled to suspend its online platform and services at any time and also to end the usage agreement at any time. The online platform or other services may also be temporarily unavailable due to technical difficulties. Users have no right to demand that ifwom’s online platform and services be available at all times.

Limitations of liability.

The user is responsible for providing the necessary technical requirements to use ifwom’s services, in particular the necessary hardware and software (e.g. Internet browser) and access and transmission services, at his or her own expense. ifwom assumes no responsibility for the compatibility of services with the user’s individual hardware and software equipment. Under no circumstances will ifwom be responsible for any direct or indirect damage resulting from the use of or inability to use materials found on the online platform.


In the event that one or more provisions of these terms of use are or become invalid in whole or in part, or these terms of use contain an omission, or a set deadline violates the degree permissible by law, the validity of the remaining terms of use shall not be affected.
